The next morning we breakfasted at the hotel and then set out to explore Brisbane. I had decided that I wanted to go to an exhibition called Sciencentre that was running over the other side of the river towards the main part of the city. After walking to where I thought it might be and wandering around looking puzzled, we eventually found a small sign saying that the exhibition had moved to the museum, back where we had started from. D'Oh! We carried on with our walking tour of the city thinking that we might go to the museum on the way back to the hotel.
Brisbane is a really nice city, compact with some pretty, old buildings and monuments (post office square, town hall, treasury, customs house, cathederal etc). It also seems to have an unproportionately high number of serious outdoor equipment shops, bizarrely. We had a nice lunch of sandwiches and beer in a street cafe and then wondered back over to the museum. It turns out that the Sciencentre had not actually opened in the museum yet but they did have some of the exhibits in a section of the museum. They were fairly disappointing, certainly not worth the amount of effort we had put into finding them!
We walked over to Brisbane's man made lagoon and beach (!), via the hotel to get changed, and had a bit of a swim and sunbathe. After getting changed we had another meal on the South Bank. This one proved to be much nicer; a Chinese in a place called Noodle Obsession.
